Project Selection
Projects are proposed for funding by members of SIOP (International Society of Paediatric Oncology) and ICCCPO (International Confederation of Child Cancer Parents Organisations). Rigorous assessment criteria are used by our medical Trustees and medical Ambassadors – all of whom are paediatric oncology specialists - to shortlist and select projects including:
- the presence of strong local leadership by an experienced medic;
- the technical feasibility of the project and evidence of long-term strategic planning;
- willingness to demonstrate accountability with clearly stated outcomes;
- the potential for sustainability beyond the period of the grant;
- and commitment to a twinning partnership.
After a project has been shortlisted much work goes into identifying a suitable twinning partner. We then work with the project centre and the twinning centre to develop a realistic and achievable five year strategy including a detailed budget and measurable outcomes. The process can take between six to twelve months and we have found that planning in the early stages of each project ensures success later on.
