Why support children with cancer in Nepal?

All children with cancer, no matter where they are born, deserve access to the best possible treatment and care, but this is not yet the reality. In developing countries, like Nepal, children are often misdiagnosed or die of curable cancer because of a lack of awareness. Even when a child does receive an accurate diagnosis, a lack of trained professionals and resources can prevent children from receiving the best standard of treatment and care as quickly as possible. For many families, access to the treatment they desperately need is out of reach due to the cost of care and enormous distances to hospital. The emotional and financial pressures of childhood cancer can be crippling for a family meaning many children are forced to abandon treatment, significantly reducing their chances of survival.

All children have dreams and aspirations of what they want to be when they grow up. Children with cancer are no different. We are asking you to help Close the Cancer Gap by donating today. Over 300,000 children will develop cancer this year and most of them will live in developing countries, like Nepal, where as few as one in ten survive compared to over eight in ten in developed countries.

How will my donation make a difference?

With your support we can Close the Cancer Gap for children with cancer around the world. Your donation will train more healthcare professionals, support families through treatment and raise awareness of childhood cancer in local communities. Together we can give more children the opportunity to have a future. We have tripled survival rates from 20% to 60% in some of our programmes and, with your support, we can continue to save the lives of children around the world. All gifts made by UK residents will be doubled by the UK government meaning your support will help twice as many children.

Will my money and matched money from the UK government go to the same project?

Match funding from the UK government will support children with cancer in Nepal whilst your donation will go towards supporting our other programmes in developing countries around the world.

What is UK Aid Match and how does it work?

UK Aid Match is a scheme that allows the UK public to have a say in how some of the government’s international aid budget is spent. The UK government will match public donations (within set dates and up to an agreed amount), to selected charities which tackle poverty in developing countries to ensure your support goes twice as far.
