Our final Fundraising Hero of 2016 is the wonderful Louise Gooding and her sister Jenni. The pair run a children’s entertainment company in Switzerland called Make It Special, and as well as bringing fun and joy to the lives of children in Switzerland they also wanted to help children who faced the challenges of cancer in some of the world's poorest countries.
After organising a very special party with a brave little girl named Elena (pictured left with Louise), who herself had just fought her own battle with cancer, and they wanted to dedicate a year to fundraising for other children fighting the disease. They found World Child Cancer through researching international charities online, and decided that they wanted to support children with cancer, and their families, in the developing world and believed that their fundraising efforts would make a difference. Their initial fundraising target was £1000, which is no easy amount to raise without a lot of planning and time spent on the events to make them a success. They held various events including movie nights, face painting and a coffee morning, and dressed up for many of their fundraising events as Anna and Elsa from the film ‘Frozen’ as the sisters naturally look like the pair from the film! In the end the sisters raised as astounding £2,089, which is double their initial target. Their passion and determination to support children with cancer is remarkable, and we are so lucky to have worked with them in 2016.
“It’s so easy to just fundraise for the bigger, well known charities, but the team at World Child Cancer seem very driven to ensure the success and encouragement of their fundraising teams and I am really pleased to have made the contact and be working with them!”
The money raised could pay for welcome packs for 280 new patients and their families in Malawi, which include hygiene supplies and food.
