Joerg Peters - Berlin Marathon, September 2016
Sadly, I did not get to meet Joerg before or after his race but it is safe to say his warmth and fantastic personality shone through his fundraising page. With regular updates and photos, Joerg really took advantage of Just Giving’s new blog style format to keep his sponsors engaged throughout his fundraising. This certainly had a positive impact as the donations flooded in which was great for Joerg as he only had 6 weeks to fundraise before his race.
Joerg and his wife both entered the ballot for the Berlin marathon, his wife was successful and he sadly was not. Luckily for Joerg, someone dropped out of the World Child Cancer team and he received a newsletter notifying him that we had one place left, I was delighted to welcome Joerg into our team.
Berlin was Joerg’s 9th marathon, so he is definitely a seasoned pro. On the day itself, Joerg confirmed that the atmosphere was amazing, the streets were lined with people watching and they had the perfect weather on race day. Joerg completed the race in 3hrs 33 mins and he says that he is really happy with the amount he fundraised for such a great cause.
I caught up with Joerg after the race to see if he was recovering and having a well-deserved rest, oh no, one week after running the Berlin Marathon, Joerg took on the Cologne Marathon and smashed a new personal best of 3hrs 25 minutes. We bow down to you Joerg!
Thank you to Joerg for raising an incredible £1,550.13!
