We are excited to announce that World Child Cancer has been selected to participate in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2018, the UK’s largest match funding campaign. Over the past four years, over £56,000 has been raised for children with cancer in the developing world by fantastic supporters like you through The Big Give.
This year, our project aims to support childhood cancer training for nurses in Cameroon. Donations to this project will be matched for one week only from #GivingTuesday on the 27th November, meaning your donation will have twice the impact. With your support, we can help to train 25 nurses and improve the quality of care for over 150 children with cancer in Cameroon.
Over 1000 children develop cancer each year in Cameroon, yet very few have access to diagnostic services, essential drugs and quality care. Although we have helped our partner hospitals increase survival rates significantly, further intervention is necessary for children to receive the treatment and care they desperately need, and for survival rates to continue to improve.
By training more nurses in paediatric oncology we can help to improve the quality of care for children with cancer. We will support twinning visits to share knowledge and expertise between volunteer nurses in developed countries to those in our partner hospitals in Cameroon to build lasting skills and empower nurses to share their knowledge. This will help to develop a sustainable, improved healthcare service in Cameroon for children with cancer.
The project will improve standards of nursing care which are fundamental to improved survival. There will be increased awareness of the early warning signs of childhood cancer among nurses, other healthcare workers and local communities meaning that more children receive a faster route to better treatment, reducing the number of families abandoning treatment and further increasing survival rates.
What can I do?
From 12pm GMT on the 27th November, your donations can be doubled. Donate now and your support can have twice the impact this Christmas!
