Children and their families celebrate Christmas in Ghana

  • Families were treated to a festive meal
  • The Wish Tree at the Spirit of Christmas
  • Christmas wishes from families in London to families in Ghana

A huge thank you goes to our incredible supporters for raising £653.70 to organise Christmas parties for children and their families on the cancer wards at both the Korle Bu (KBTH) and Komfo Anokye (KATH) Teaching Hospitals in Ghana.

Celebrations took place on Saturday December 16th with around 200 children and their families attending the party at KBTH. The festivities began with games followed by speeches by the First Lady of Ghana, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, and the Head of the Paediatric Oncology Unit, Professor Lorna Renner. The First Lady brought presents for the children which included school bags, stationery, toys and sweets. In addition, children and their families were treated to festive food and drink.

Donations made through the Wish Tree at The Spirit of Christmas also contributed to supporting the Christmas parties.

George Achempin, Programme Coordinator in Ghana, said;

All of the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the families on the ward also having time to relax. Many thanks to the wonderfully generous donators who made this event possible.

We want to say a warm thank you to everyone who donated. A party gives children with cancer a chance to enjoy this special time of year together with their family putting their illness aside for a moment. Your gifts helped to give children with cancer a Christmas to remember this festive season.
