Shobna Vedi, wife of World Child Cancer’s Chairman Anu Vedi, organised her second fundraiser for the charity raising a remarkable £6, 865. Shobna confirmed her motivation to organise another event for World Child Cancer came after taking part in the Orange Walk 3 years in a row and also her successful coffee morning that she organised in 2015 which raised £3,500. This gave Shobna the determination to raise even more money to support vital funds to give children with cancer in developing countries an equal chance of accessing the best possible treatment and care. Hosting the event in a local hall and with the help of her 3 friends (organisers), Shobna welcomed ladies from her community to attend. They invited 5 ladies to manage stalls selling items including designer handbags, boutique style jewellery and one lady even showed guests how to wear saris. It was a great way to promote their businesses and a percentage of the proceeds went to World Child Cancer. Shobna asked each of her friends to sell tickets priced at £25, however some guests donated over and above the suggested ticket price. It was their generous donations along with the sales from the stalls that made the event a huge success.
Thanks to Shobna’s hard work and passion to host this Ladies lunch, the money she raised could pay for essential ward equipment for 3 years in Malawi. It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of extraordinary people like Shobna, that we are able to do the work that we do.
