Dr Robert Carr is a Consultant Haematologist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital in London, where he leads the teenage and young adult cancer service.
He first visited Myanmar in 2004, as part of a project supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to investigate the genetic spectrum of childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in resource-poor countries. At that time the first paediatric oncology service in Myanmar was being established at Yangon Children’s hospital under the leadership of Dr Aye Aye Khaing, and he has continued to be involved with its growth and development.
For World Child Cancer Dr Carr leads the UK twinning between the Evelina Children’s Hospital at Guy’s & St Thomas’ London and Yangon Children’s Hospital. His particular interest is to drive better outcomes for children with cancer through improved diagnosis of the leukaemias, lymphomas and other childhood tumours.
